Our philosophy
“The one thing I’ve learned over the past 25 years is that it’s not about our vision.
It’s about our client’s Vision. It’s our job to both listen and guide them as we make their ideas real.”
what’s it like to work with us?
“We are not a large firm, and that’s by choice; instead, we prefer to work directly with each client, and be personally involved in every aspect of the process. Clients truly appreciate that they can always speak directly with a principal of the firm.”
In our experience, people often ‘silo’ big projects, like building a new home, into a few simple chunks. Think: An architect. A contractor. A landscaper. Done.
And that’s certainly understandable.
The reality, however, is that even the smallest project is quite complex. But at Mark Schwartz & Associates, the many aspects of bringing an idea to life, all of the project threads and pieces, the meetings and sketches and plans, the necessary paperwork and practical matters of working with the Town and meeting myriad requirements, and all of the revisions and surprises that crop up in the process — everything we do, really — can be traced back to our primary directive which is, ultimately, to give our clients exactly what they want. And sometimes that means helping them figure out what that is along the way.
“We respect and appreciate that clients usually have a very definite sense of what they want, and what they’re comfortable with,” says Mark Schwartz. “It’s our responsibility to draw from our experience to provide guidance and, sometimes, alternative approaches that will still get our clients where they really want to go. Sometimes we open their eyes to new possibilities that they hadn’t considered and, either way, in the final product we make sure to realize not only the right look, but also the exact feeling our clients are trying to achieve for their home.”
In the end we gauge our success not by way of a spreadsheet, but instead by the new relationships we’ve made with our clients, and the look on their faces when they walk through the door and move into their new spaces. That’s why we do what we do.

“Working with MKS architects was a real pleasure. Mark immediately understood our vision and was so helpful and knowledgeable in guiding us through all of the permitting and town regulations. Our project (pool house) turned out beautifully- more so than we could have hoped for.”
